On June 10th, the Trump administration announced a new proposed regulation that threatens to deliver the most significant blow to the U.S. asylum system yet. The 161-page rule lists a series of changes that would make it even more difficult to claim asylum in the U.S. and put thousands of lives at risk.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]At InReach, we witness the lifesaving protections that U.S. asylum affords persecuted LGBTQ+ people every day. The U.S. should be welcoming persecuted LGBTQ+ people not proposing regulation to make it more difficult to claim asylum. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

“The Trump administration’s new proposed asylum regulation is the most dangerous attack on the U.S. asylum system yet. Instead of focusing on addressing the nation’s pressing crises of coronavirus and systematic racism against black and brown people, the administration is choosing to target those who are fleeing persecution and depend on claiming asylum to survive. Announced during LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the proposed regulation threatens to dismantle protections for victims of gender-based violence, including LGBTQ+ individuals.”
