User Story of the Week – Meet Anastasia
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Introduction” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:center|color:%234892da” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]“Anastasia” is a queer woman who left Russia after threats of violence because of her LGBTQ+ identity. She came to the U.S. on a short-term visa to attend a conference in Brooklyn. Upon arrival in Brooklyn, she began to apply for LGBTQ+ asylum. Before arriving, Anastasia is mainly concerned with finding LGBTQ-friendly housing and uses InReach to plan ahead. Once she is in Brooklyn, Anastasia moves into the housing she found on InReach. Her priority now becomes finding an experienced lawyer to help file her asylum application. Then she is interested in finding local clothing, food, LGBTQ-affirming medical and mental health care, and LGBTQ-inclusive social support. She remains hesitant in meeting new people, as she worries about facing the homophobia she did at home. She still worries about her family’s safety in Russia, and so is also concerned with anonymity. Anastasia relies on InReach’s free, confidential app to answer all of her resettlement questions, and she takes special comfort in knowing the app is private and all service providers listed are verified to be LGBTQ-affirming.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5071″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Help welcome Anastasia home” h2_use_theme_fonts=”yes” txt_align=”center” style=”outline” color=”sky” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”DONATE” btn_color=”sky” btn_align=”center” use_custom_fonts_h2=”true” btn_button_block=”true” btn_link=”url:%2Fdonate|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row]
