Young Professionals Board Service Project: March 2024

Right now, an unprecedented rise in anti-LGBTQ+ state legislation is threatening access to safe resourcesย  for LGBTQ+ peopleโ€“especially trans folksโ€“in the United States. In response to the urgent need for safe resources and in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31st), InReach Young Professionals Board (YPB) members took action during March by researching new affirming organizations providing domestic trans relocation support services (such as direct relocation assistance and transportation for gender affirming care); researching new affirming organizations helping to welcome LGBTQ+ people/families in sanctuary states in their region; and researching new affirming organizations working to provide LGBTQ+ people with safeย services in states with high volumes of anti-LGBTQ+ bills.

Project Highlights:

  • 6ย YPB members contributed to the project
  • 3.5 hours of service contributed by the group
  • 34ย new affirming resources identified during the service project for InReach

Nearly half of respondents to the latest U.S. Transgender Survey said they had thought about moving to other states because their state governments considered or passed laws that target transgender people. This staggering statistic reinforces how critical it is to provide access to safe, verified resources for transgender individuals seeking relocation support given the current legislative climate. โ€“ Harper Simpson, March 2024 Service Project Co-Lead
