InReach Awarded Grant from The Starbucks Foundation

InReach Awarded Grant from The Starbucks Foundation

The Neighborhood Grant recognizes community impact the organization has in LGBTQ+ and refugee rights

As part of The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program, InReach was selected to receive a $1,000 grant. This grant award is thanks to a nomination(s) from a local Starbucks partner(s) (employee(s)) who recognized the work of the organization in communities across the United States, to leverage technology to ensure safe help is in reach for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Through this unique program, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks partners to nominate a local organization in their community. Since 2019, more than 6,000 grants have been awarded to organizations, amounting to more than $10 million.

InReach is a trans-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing the world’s first tech platform matching LGBTQ+ people with safe, verified resources. InReach’s free technology instantly matches LGBTQ+ people fleeing persecution and other LGBTQ+ people in need with independently verified, affirming medical and mental health care, immigration and other legal help, safe housing, education and employment opportunities, translation services, community support, and more critical support services. This grant will support the expansion of the free InReach App to help ensure every LGBTQ+ person has access to safe, affirming resources.

“As a record number of state bills seek to curtail LGBTQ+ rights, particularly trans rights, our work at InReach is urgent. We are grateful to The Starbucks Foundation for supporting the diverse LGBTQ+ community, including asylum seekers and refugees, young people experiencing homelessness, and other transgender and non-binary people in need of safe resources. Everyone deserves the freedom to live authentically,” said Jamie Sgarro, co-founder and executive director at InReach.

The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program supports grassroots, community-led nonprofit organizations through catalytic investments in the form of grants. Neighborhood Grants also help build sustained local impact and inspire increased partner (employee) engagement with nonprofit organizations that work in their communities.

“Every day, our partners (employees) support the communities and neighborhoods that our stores are a part of. We’re committed to making each community stronger by listening to our partners, who know their neighborhoods best,” said Aldrinana Leung, acting executive director of The Starbucks Foundation. “This year, we saw the largest number of Neighborhood Grants nominations to date and The Starbucks Foundation is humbled to be able to support the people and organizations that make our communities better.”
