Earlier this month, a federal judge ruled that DACA is illegal, throwing the status of LGBTQ+ and other Dreamers into doubt.

"For hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ+ Dreamers, the U.S. is home. It’s where they grew up, came out, went to school, got jobs, and started families. Uprooting them now will not only devastate communities across the country, it will put queer Dreamers in grave danger."

As a trans-led nonprofit with a history in LGBTQ+ asylum, we call attention to what it means for a shrinking segment of the U.S. to be safe for the trans community.

InReach has heard directly from numerous trans people and families impacted by the unprecedented wave of anti-trans legislation sweeping across the United States. Many seek to flee hostile states and relocate to safer ‘sanctuary’ states. Some hope to leave the U.S. altogether in favor of resettling in a country with more societal acceptance and legal protections for transgender people. All deserve to live freely without fear of violence or discrimination. 🏳️‍⚧️💙

Meet Kris (she/her), an Operations Specialist at R

Meet Kris (she/her), an Operations Specialist at Rewire News Group from our Virtual Chapter. Kris is in the middle of her first year as a member of our Junior Board, and is doing amazing!

When asked about what InReach's mission means to her, Kris said, "It means community and intersectionality. It means coming to together and looking after one another and actually seeing people for their humanity. InReach aims to make sure that the LGBTQ+ community has an accessible support system within their app."

When asked why she joined the Junior Board Program, Kris said, "I joined InReach to help spread awareness about their mission and app. As an ally, I want to advance social good in the LGBTQ+ community given all the legal hate bans passing. I would also like to refer someone as a Jr. Board member in the future."

Kris's favorite thing about being a member of the Junior Board is "being a part of something outside of 9-5 work, that helps me give back with my time and skills. I also believe in InReach and what they're doing to provide safe havens and other resources to marginalized LGBTQ+ people."

When asked what she hoped for InReach's future and what we can achieve together, she said, "I hope InReach will continue to be recognized as an accessible free tool for queer people globally. I hope there are some expansions in cities/states and even nations where being queer is banned so that folks living in those toxic regions can access safe resources."

A fun fact about Kris is she loves the beach and tropical islands!
