50 State Activation

Animated InReach logo with the text “50 State Activation.” A rainbow border surrounds the image. The words “Connecting every LGBTQ+ person to safety one state at a time” appear below, representing InReach’s nationwide campaign to build safe connections for LGBTQ+ people across all 50 U.S. states.

Building safety, connection, and belonging for LGBTQ+ people in every U.S. state.

Across the country, volunteers are stepping up to expand access to verified safe and affirming resources for LGBTQ+ people.
Together, we’re activating communities in all 50 states — so no one has to wonder where it’s safe to go.

Change the world with us

Start a connector Team

Help expand access to safe, affirming resources for LGBTQ+ people everywhere.

What Are InReach Connectors?

InReach Connectors are volunteers across the U.S. helping LGBTQ+ people find safety, support, and belonging.
They identify and verify new local resources, spread the word about InReach, and help raise funds to keep the platform free and open.

Connectors are the bridge between online access and real-world community, helping InReach reach deeper into every state, city, and neighborhood.

Why Start a Connector Team?

When you start a Connector Team, you’re doing more than volunteering — you’re building life-saving access for your community. It All starts with one person.
Each team helps InReach:

  • Expand the number of verified, safe resources on our map

  • Raise awareness about InReach among those who need it most

  • Build community through local outreach and events

  • Fundraise to keep InReach’s platform free for everyone

Every action matters and every Connector makes a difference.

What Does a Connector Team Do?

You can start small and grow at your own pace. A team can start with just one person and 5 minutes a week.

Some Ideas Include:

  • Hosting local awareness events.
  • Adding and verifying new resources on the InReach app.
  • Partnering with LGBTQ+ centers, shelters, or health providers.
  • Sharing InReach on social media.
  • Organizing low-dollar, recurring donation drives.
  • Building a local network of affirming community members.

Low barriers. Real impact. Sustainable change.

CONNECTOR TEAM MEMBERS IN ACTION

Learn more about the 50 State Activation program by reading the sample stories below.

Sofia (The Campus Connector) is a college student in Texas who wants to make her campus more welcoming. On her way to class, she hangs up an InReach QR code flyer on the bulletin board near the LGBTQ+ student center. Later, she shares the InReach App with her roommate and a few classmates who are studying social work. By taking just five minutes here and there, Sofia is able to make sure her peers know about a safe, free tool to find affirming resources in their area.

Jordan (The Lunch Break Activator) works in a small town in Ohio. During their lunch break, they log onto InReach and review a local LGBTQ-friendly primary care clinic they’ve used. They also suggest a new affirming mental health provider in their region for InReach to verify. By spending just 15 minutes once a week, Jordan helps ensure that others in their community can more easily access affirming care.

Priya (The Conversation Starter) is an ally living in Florida. One evening, she hosts a short virtual info session for three close friends, showing them how to download and navigate the InReach App. Together, they brainstorm affirming resources to suggest to the platform. Priya loves how easy it is to bring people into the work, and her friends are excited to become Grassroots Activators, too.

Miguel (The Community Bridge-Builder) volunteers with his local LGBTQ+ center in Arizona. After attending an InReach virtual huddle, he reaches out to a trusted staff member at the center to introduce them to the InReach platform. He explains how listing their programs could help more people find safe support. This simple 30-minute action builds a bridge between InReach and a local organization, strengthening the safety net for LGBTQ+ people.

Leah (The Everyday Reviewer) lives in rural Maine, where resources are often limited. Over the course of a month, she spends five minutes at a time verifying local resources and reviewing services she’s used, like a supportive family doctor and a youth support group. Whenever she finds a new resource, she quickly suggests it through InReach. Leah feels proud knowing that her small, consistent contributions are making a big difference for LGBTQ+ people in her state.

INFORMATION FOR COMPANIES/EMPLOYERS

As a great way to showcase your company’s commitment to community service, you are encouraged to share InReach’s 50 State Activation Program with your employees. The program offers a unique, hands-on opportunity for your employees to directly serve the communities where they live and where you conduct business.

We are especially interested in adding volunteers from marginalized communities to promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
