User Story of the Week – Meet Alex

“Alex” is a trans teen living in a conservative part of Texas. Alex finds himself homeless when his family learns about his true gender identity. With just the clothes on his back, a small suitcase, and phone, Alex is on the streets and at immediate risk of violence and exploitation. Alex turns to his phone for urgent information on nearby free LGBTQ-friendly services. His search leads him to InReach. Although Alex is not an asylum seeker, he feels a sense of belonging and community from InReach. He uses InReach’s free resource app as a lifeline to quickly identify and access a local drop-in center for LGBTQ+ youth, a free trans support group, gender-affirming restroom and clothing items, and doctor. With InReach support, Alex knows he is going to be ok as Alex.
